Family and Inclusion Team (FIT)
The Family and Inclusion team support learners and families across the school, working with class based staff and other professionals in school to ensure that children and young people are safe, happy and able to make progress and do well. The FIT team supports children and families when they join the school to make smooth and well planned transitions into their new class teams and to ensure that important information and strategies are shared with colleagues across the school.
Work with children
The team are able to work with children directly in the classroom or in our specialist bases across the building supporting children and young people to become “classroom ready”. The team are able to visit families at home to help set up new routines, to observe children and to model behaviour strategies.
Family Support and keeping children safe
Safeguarding and pupil safety is paramount at Swiss Cottage and the FIT team work with class teams to develop Risk Assessments, Care Plans and Personal Handling and Behaviour Plans and are happy to share these with families upon request.
The team work in conjunction with Camden’s Disabled Children’s Team and Family Support and Social work teams and always try to ensure families are supported to avoid crisis interventions. We are able to make referrals into social work teams to access short breaks and social work assessments.
The FIT team works closely with KIDS and Elfrida Rathbone, two leading charities that support children and families with special needs, with them we run regular coffee mornings and events for parents and carers to access advice and support but also to meet and make friends with other families in the school.
CAMHS and Creative Therapeutic support
The FIT team liaises with professionals from the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and Coram’s Family and co-ordinates interventions that support children’s emotional and mental health needs; we are able to make referrals for a wide range of supportive interventions based in and out of school.
