Dear Parents, Carers, and Families,
A news article is published today in the Ham & High newspaper about Camden Transport school transport. The article highlights concerns about the monitoring of MOT certificates on some Camden Transport buses. The school was not aware of these concerns until the Ham & High newspaper contacted us for comment.
Camden Transport runs the bus service that brings many of your children to school and returns them home. Camden Transport is a Camden Local Authority organisation. This is an external service. The school does not employ Camden Transport staff and is not a part of any of their systems. The school does not decide who gains transport provision.
When we were informed of the MOT concerns by the Ham & High, we contacted Camden Local Authority and Camden Transport to confirm whether all buses are currently holding a valid MOT certificate which confirms their safety. Camden Transport has confirmed that all buses are currently safe for transport.
Camden Transport has confirmed:
- all Camden Transport buses have a valid MOT;
- an additional inspection takes place every 10 weeks;
- all drivers are qualified professionals who complete a daily check.
The safety of your child is our paramount concern. We have requested a regular meeting with Camden Transport to receive an update on the validity of MOTs. We will be meeting with Camden Transport every half term to guarantee their buses have a valid MOT. We will also complete this monitoring for transport provided by other local authorities.
As a school, we have provided training to the Camden Transport drivers and escorts on strategies to support our pupils. We will continue to do this and value the work of the Camden Transport team, drivers and escorts.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us or Camden Transport on 02079746723.
