Update from Governors

Dear Parents/Carers

What an exciting pressured 22 weeks since I last wrote to you.

I must start with congratulating Kay and all staff for the amazing result of the Ofsted inspection – OUTSTANDING!  For the fifth time in a row!  Think back 21 months – 161 pupils and 110 staff marooned in temporary accommodation in Brent.  Over the 21 months we absorbed Jack Taylor pupils and staff, took in an additional 30 pupils and 60 staff, moved into a new building that initially was not ready on time and had many building defects.  Despite the difficulties and traumas we were still judged “outstanding”!

BAM Construction spent February half term dealing with many defects and should complete the tasks over the Easter break.  There are still 3 – 4 major issues to solve but I think I can say we are getting there and staff and pupils are appreciating the fabulous facilities the new building offers.

The Parent Council continues to meet regularly and I urge anyone interested to approach the teachers of their child with a view to joining.

Monday 17th March saw our pupils performing at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the Camden Music Festival.  It was a fabulous evening with Swiss Cottage pupils doing themselves proud.  I thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Some important dates for your diaries:

Thursday 1 May at 17.30 – 19.30 is International Evening:  the theme this year is “Fair Trade Fashion” and will feature a catwalk show.  In addition there will be international food, “world dance room”, a Scandinavian corner and a “global marketplace” with stalls.  Please keep the evening free and join us at the school.  If you wish to contribute, please contact Rozenn Himri, the school’s French teacher (rozenn.himri@swisscottage.camden.sch.uk).

Saturday 21 June is the Summer Fair – we need you to volunteer to help Clare Avant (claire.avant@swisscottage.camden.sch.uk) prepare for the event – to work on the stalls, to contribute, but most importantly to be there with your family and enjoy the day.

I am delighted to advise you that the school will be purchasing parking permits – for which we will charge you approximately £2.50 for one hour and which will be available to you in the main reception for when you come to the school for meetings such as annual reviews.

Finally, please click here for an update from the chairs of various committees.  I hope your children continue to benefit from being part of Swiss Cottage School and wish you an enjoyable Easter holiday.

Regards

Peter Sprinz
