“Yes, that’s it! Said the Hatter with a sigh, it’s always tea time”

Lower school celebrated World Autism Day yesterday with a Mad Hatter’s Tea party. Snacks, sensory play, bubbles and imaginary tea were on the menu at the party hosted by the white rabbit, Alice and the mad hatter himself. Learners and staff looked fantastic in fancy dress but my personal favourite was the Caterpillar complete with button that said ‘whoooooo are yooouuuuuu?’

Lewis Carroll, author of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and inspiration for our tea party was thought to be Autistic. Wolfgang Mozart, Daryl Hannah, Andy Warhol, and even Tim Burton have autistic characteristics. At Swiss Cottage we are spending Autism Awareness Month celebrating the strengths, successes and uniqueness of not only our learners but everyone on the Autistic Spectrum.
