Dear Parents and Carers,

We started the week with an inspirational visit from a parent of a special young man called Jonathan Bryan.

As you know, our Upper School classes are named after inspirational people in the field of inclusion and special educational needs. This year we named a class after Jonathan Bryan, who from an early age was given the label of Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties and who, when finally exposed to purposeful literacy teaching, eventually wrote a book – Eye Can Write. Jonathan started a national campaign – Teach Us Too – that works to ensure that all schools teach high quality, personalised and aspirational literacy to every child and young person.

On Tuesday, we were delighted to have been able to have a visit from Jonathan’s mother and colleagues from his charity Teach Us Too to promote Jonathan’s message of inclusive literacy for all and to deliver a workshop for teachers.

After their visit, Jonathan’s mother shared that ‘It was inspiring for us to visit a school who are so passionate about including communication and literacy across the school.  We are looking forward to working in close partnership with the charity who are planning a parent/carer workshop in the Spring term. Here is a video that Jonathan recorded about his mission before he sadly passed away last year.

Yesterday, you should have received a letter in your child’s bag providing the date and time options for your child’s progress meeting in the second week of January. During this meeting, we will be discussing with your child’s teacher, their progress through the Autumn term and their proposed Spring term targets.

Please return the slip by Friday 12th December so that we can allocate your appointment before the end of term.

Below is the end of term countdown with key dates for your diaries.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Syra Sowe
Principal (Interim)
